TILFLUGT
BY SIGNE KLEJS & CHristian Windfeld

04.09.22 - 11.09.22

The exhibition TILFLUGT (Refuge) was a dialogue between spaces. Taking place at the art centre Regelbau 411’s two bunkers at Oddesund and the alternative concert venue Radar in Aarhus, interdisciplinary artist Signe Klejs and composer Christian Wildfeld had been invited to create a work that is essentially a meeting between place-bound, institutional and artistic practices.

Sand, percussion and sound were part of the exhibition, which reflected on the narratives and imaginings associated with both locations and Man's struggle to find shelter in a chaotic world.

Within this context, the exhibition pointed towards meditation and rituals as sacred places, as somewhere for people to take refuge. Distanced more than 100 kilometres apart, Radar and Regelbau 411 were intertwined by a simultaneous event during a period of eight days. Here, time stood still for a moment, while distances dissolved in a cycle of eternal return.

The exhibition was curated in a collaboration between Radar and Regelbau 411 as a dialogue  transgressing disciplinary, physical and institutional boundaries. By blending the institutional practices represented by Radar as a concert venue and Regelbau 411 as an art centre, a new format was developed, challenging traditional ideas about performative concerts and site-specific exhibitions.

Signe Klejs (DK) is an interdisciplinary artist whose works are often site-specific. Interacting with the surroundings, and often including a dimension of change, her works challenge the idea of sublimity and remind us that tomorrow will be different from yesterday.

Christian Windfeld (DK) graduated as a soloist from the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus and has been touring Australia, North America and Europe with his performative compositions. In 2015 he received the “Young Elite” fellowship awarded by the Danish Arts Council.
